Objects

To be a voice for the Newark & Sherwood voluntary and community sector and to be co-ordinated network providing mutual support.

To raise the profile of the voluntary and community sector with the statutory sector and the general public.

 Powers

  • In furtherance of the above objects, CAN may:

  • Organise events, conferences, training or information sessions for CAN members.

  • Promote the voluntary and community sector and its activities to the statutory sector and the general public.

  • Provide a channel through which statutory organisations can consult with the voluntary and community sector.

  • Nominate representatives onto partnership groups, networks, forums and any other appropriate decision making body.

  • Raise funds and invite and receive contributions from any person or persons whatsoever by way of donations, contributions and otherwise

  • Subject to such consents as may be required by law, raise money for the said objects and accept gifts

  • Invest the money of CAN not individually required for the said objects in or upon such investments, securities as may be thought fit, subject nevertheless to such conditions (if any) as may for the time being be unpaid or required by law

  • Do all other such lawful things as are necessary for the attainment of the CAN’s objects.

 Committee

The operational side of CAN is undertaken by the CAN Steering Group. Membership of the Steering Group is open to all member organisations. The Steering Group meets every two months. Decisions made by the Steering Group are referred to the full membership for validation.

 Membership

Membership is open to all not for profit organisations who share the aims, objectives and values of CAN.

 Payments and Benefits

The Steering Group members and their organisations may be reimbursed for such on-going costs as postage, printing, telephone, petrol and stationery incurred undertaking the work of the Group. Such expenditure is to be approved by the Steering Group. Newark & Sherwood CVS holds funds on behalf of CAN and the financial records of CAN are circulated to all members and all funders on request.

 Closing Down

In the case of CAN dissolving, any surplus monies and property will be redistributed to an organisation/group with similar aims and values.
