Steering Group

Newark & Sherwood CAN is a proactive networking group aiming to improve quality of life for people in the district. There are four meetings a year which are open to representatives of all member organisations. Meetings usually take place at lunch time and a free buffet lunch is provided during a networking period before the business.

Membership of Newark & Sherwood Community Action Network currently stands in excess of 100 organisations.

Membership is free and all local community and voluntary organisations are encouraged to become members to strengthen our voice in consultations.

Member organisations are invited to give brief presentations on their activities at each meeting as one element of our objective to improve communication both within the voluntary and community sector and with our statutory partners. Outside speakers are invited to give presentations on relevant topics and occasional special meetings are arranged to address hot topics. Meetings and member 'Bulletins' are used to inform and consult with the membership and to feed back information on the progress of work in hand. This Website provides another channel of communication between the Steering Group and the members.

CAN is led by a steering group consisting of representatives from community and voluntary groups, Community & Voluntary Service (CVS), Community Development Workers and the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP). Member organisations are invited and encouraged to nominate representatives on the Steering Group – please contact Julia Hughes, CVS Manager jhughes@nandscvs.org
